January Camp Update

Yeah yeah, so its been awhile...thats ok, because I have a lot of NEWS to cover!!

Things have been going great at Cabs so far. In fact, we had so many snare vets return this season that I had to volunteer to play tenors just so no one would get cut! So, its off to the gy 4 nights a week for me, because i gotta prepare my back for what is to be a long and heavy season of drummin.

The show is coming along smoothly. We have roughly half the show done musically, and all sections are ahead of schedule. We are currently marching 10-5-5 and 13 pit, to go along with 64 horns and 30 guard.

We still have i think 4 open horn spots, and a couple of guard spots, not sure how many. Our next camp is the weekend after the Pro Bowl, so come check us out!!

The calm before the storm...

With only 2 days left until the next Caballero camp, a feeling of excitement fills my body...or maybe thats the school lunch I ate last Tuesday?? Anyway, I hate the days leading up to a camp, because thats all I'll ever think about. During my prep periods at school when Im supposed to be having parent/teacher conferences, grading papers, and checking my voicemail is spent taping up sticks, memorizing music, and searching the school stock room for extra batteries for my "Dr.Beat".

This camp is looking to be even better than the previous two rehearsals of the Mission 06:60 season, and for several reasons:

  • I have ALL my music memorized
  • We're getting more new music
  • 3 more snare vets from the 2004 season are coming back (that makes 16 snares for those of you who are counting at home)
  • I just saved a bunch of money on my car insuran...ok, that joke's getting a little old, sorry!!

Anyway, the next 2 days of school will officially suck ass...Thanks Cabs!!!!

Come and check out what I'm talking about at camp this SATURDAY, JANUARY 7th and 8th at HAWTHORNE HIGH SCHOOL in beautiful HAWTHORNE, NJ...right past the toll booths and the Dunkin Donuts, cant miss it. Practice starts at 10:00am.

ps - A recent comment asked me if we intend on keeping all 16 snares...to answer that question, I would just like to say...no, we're looking for 20, sucka!

December Camp

We had our first full camp weekend on Saturday, December 10th and Sunday, December 11th. Both days were extremely productive. Brass and Percussion both claim very close to finishing the entire opener musically by the end of the weekend.

Recruitment has been going very well so far this year, with a large number of returning vets along with a good number of rookies. The hornline had over 80 horn players in attendance over the weekend, and the battery was somewhere in the 13-7-6 range. (For all you non-percussionists, that means snares-tenors-basses).

Our next camp is January 7th and 8th at Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, NJ. Both Saturday and Sunday rehearsals are from 10-5, with a bowling party scheduled for Saturday night!
